Vietnamese electronics industry signals strong currents of business opportunity to technology providers around the world.  As one of Vietnam’s prioritized industries, electronics has a huge room for growth, especially in the north.  The sector will focus investment on turning northern cities like Hanoi and Haiphong into leading electronics, IT and software centers in Vietnam, according to the electronics and informatics development plan for the northern focal economic zone until 2015.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said the electronics and informatics industry of the northern focal economic region will grow some 22% and meet 85% of the demand for software products and services in the entire northern area by 2015.

The industry will also join hands with northern localities to produce computer parts, stationery, household electronics, appliances, communication devices, software products and services to meet local and export demand.  The cities will gradually assemble hardware.

To realize the above goal, the ministry has introduced many measures, including setting up several strong research and development centers to provide information and consultancy, and transfer technology.  It will also attract foreign investment capital as well as modern technologies to manufacture parts, develop supporting industries to gradually replace imported parts, research, design and develop products, and control the technologies.*
